Introduction
Born in 1966 in Alchi, Ladakh, Sonam Wangchuk is a globally recognized engineer and education reformer. He is the founder of the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) and the inventor of the "Ice Stupa" artificial glaciers. Recently, he has become a leading moral voice in nationwide civic agitations.
Critical Status: As of July 18, 2026, Wangchuk was forcibly removed from the Jantar Mantar protest site on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike and moved to Safdarjung Hospital under court orders.
